We decided to take a little family outing last night and took Little John bowling. We went to Main Event in Grapevine which is nice because they don't allow smoking, the bumpers pop up on the lane for whoever wants bumpers, and Tuesday nights are half price. Tuesday nights are just a cheap night to go out in general with a lot of restaurants offering deals like kids eat free. As soon as we told John where we were going, he got SO excited and was dancing around making sure that we were all going to go. Lately whenever we say we're going somewhere he starts into, "Daddy going? Mommy going? Kailey going?" He had a blast and to my embarrassment actually beat me the first game. In my defense, I didn't have bumpers. :) The little man got the only strike of the night! Big John was off his game because he's usually really good. If you look closely you can see his neon orange bowling shoes in the pictures. I am a horrible bowler! I received some wise advice years ago when frustrated about my lack of bowling skills, "If you can't be good, have fun and look really cute doing it." I do my best.
John's 6 lb. ball which he could handle quite well!

I'm up late, as usual. Bowling...one of my favorite things to do as a child, and then a favorite thing to do with our own kids. I have looked forward to taking Jack, and now, I see he could probably take a shot at it after seeing my favorite little boy named John handle it well.
I love how he asks if each of you are going. How precious that he wants to be together wherever he is. When I was a kid, a very long time ago, bowling leagues were popular, and in the little church we attended in Everman, there were several couples who participated. My parents loved to bowl, so one night a week, we all went to the bowling alley, where we met up with our church friends, and my older sister and I would watch the younger kids from the other families and it was fun. Then, you know, the bowling alley kind of lost it "family" atmosphere. I know that Main Event is different than a regular bowling alley, but I have been pleased to see there are several bowling places that are now non-smoking, non-alcohol, family oriented places. How nice that something so old is new again. It really is a fun sport and such a good family activity!
I am so glad yall had such a great time.

Hey - good tip! We'll have to join you sometime there. We went once as a family and loved it . . just were amazed that bowling could cost so much (full price). My boys would roll their balls and then shake their little tushies until the ball reached the end (I told them that would make their ball hit more pins and go faster). Very cute little shakes!! he!
now I'm sad we didn't take the boys while we were there!Although it does look like the perfect Daddy and son outing!
